Energy Capital Alberta Provincial 21.1 K Road Race

Kip Kangogo (Lethbridge, AB)
Kip is a multiple time champion of the Edmonton Energy Capital Half Marathon and is a contender in every race he starts. Kip gained experience and garnered respect in the NCAA (US College) scene and has successfully transferred that to Canadian road racing circuit. Kip trains with his brother, Ed, and in southern Alberta and race s for the Running Room. Kip dreams of representing Canada in the marathon in the 2012 Olympic Games. Kip has won numerous half marathons in Western Canada over the previous five years and is the favourite for the title come Sunday, August 22nd.

Steve Osaduik (Langley, BC) (Will not start due to injury)
Steve, a three-time Canadian National half marathon champion, will be racing for another title, this time in the Energy Capitol Alberta Provincial 21.1 K Road Race. Recently, in Huntington Beach, California, Steve ran a personal best time of 1:04:52 in the Surf City Half Marathon. A perennial favorite on the BC road racing circuit, Steve will be looking to improve upon his best time. Steve is entering this race from a fine 2:18:29 performance at the Lake Biwa Marathon in Japan on March 7thand more recently, a 1:07:13 in the BMO Vancouver Half for second place accolades.
 
Lemma Debelu (Ethiopia)
Lemma is an Ethiopian born athlete currently living in Kitchener, Ontario. He has had a fantastic summer claiming the win at the Sporting Life 10km Race in a time of 29:22. Lemma has run a PB of 2:16 for marathon and is excited to be in Alberta for the first time racing. With a personal best of 1:04 in the half marathon, Lemma has displayed the endurance to make him a champion in the Energy Capital Half Marathon.
 
Scott Schmick (Okemos, MI, USA)
Although plagued with injuries throughout his collegian and post-collegian running career, through a dedicated training regime and further experience, Scott has now been running healthy for over two years. Scott’s goals include achieving the U.S. Olympic Trials Standard in the marathon, since then, is running to the best of his ability. Scott is currently a chemistry graduate student at Michigan State University.   He is looking to continue his recent strong performances on the Edmonton course that appeals to his aggressive running style.
 
Ezkyas Sisay (Addis Abeba, Ethiopia)
Ezkyas Sisay comes in the Energy Capital Half Marathon with personal bests of 1:03:48 for the half marathon.  Ezkyas currently lives in United States and hopes to compete for the States in the 2012 Olympics.  Ezkyas has competed in distances from the 3km steeplechase to the marathon.
 
Shadrack Kipkosgei (Kenya)
Shadrick comes to the Canadian Derby Marathon prepared and poised for his first title. Shadrick, 34 years old, has a personal best of 1:04 for the half marathon (achieved in Tanzania) and a 2:19 for the marathon. Look for Shadrick to go out hard with enough foot speed to run away from the field.
 
Matt Pieterson (Victoria, BC)
Matt Pieterson is based out of Victoria, B.C. A law student at the University of Victoria, he runs for the varsity program during the school year. Matt began running in 2007 at the age of 25 after years of rock-climbing and skiing. His top result to date is a 5th place finish at the 2009 Canadian 10 000m Championships. This will be his first half marathon.

Mark Armstrong (Edmonton, AB) Masters Division
Mark Armstrong is an Edmonton based Masters runner.  He is sponsored by Fasttrax Run and Ski Shop and New Balance.  He can often be seen running in the River Valley with other Fasttrax athletes and recently won the masters at The Little Big Run 10K and 2009`s Calgary Marathon.  He recently returned from training in Boulder, Colorado where he trained under former marathon world record holder Steve Jones.
