Timex 10 K Road Race Series
Jennifer Kemp (Edmonton, AB)
Edmonton track star Jennifer Kemp is moving up in distance to the 10km. In 2009, Jennifer had a stellar track season finishing 2nd in the 800m at this year’s National Track and Field Championships. This year Jennifer was again at track nationals and narrowly missed out on the podium in a gutsy race. Jennifer dominated the 2010 Little Big Run setting a course record and taking the title. Look for Jennifer to again push her limits and set a very fast pace in the Northlands Run with the Horses 10km Race.
Hayley Degaust (Edmonton, AB)
Hayley Degaust is an accomplished athlete who placed 10th at Canadian Junior 5km Cross Country Championships this past November. Hayley has been on four Panda’s CIS teams, two for cross-county and two for track and field. She is going into her 3rd year at the University of Alberta this fall. This is only her second road 10km event after finishing second in the Little Big Run in May.
Shannon Toope Maurismo (St Albert, AB)
After several years of recreational running, Shannon recently decided to test her limits by focussing on her interval training into her workouts. As a result she has seen dramatic improvements to her race performances by shaving four minutes off her previous best 10K time, from 41 to 37 minutes and six minutes off her previous best 10 mile time, from 69 to 63 minutes. Shannon currently lives in St. Albert, Alberta with her husband and one-year-old son.
Shari Boyle (Calgary, AB)
After an 8 year layoff from training and competing as a runner, Shari returned to the sport at age 30. Early in her comeback she competed for Canada at the World Cross Country Running Championships. In 2009 Shari focused on Duathlon competition as a part of the Canadian National Elite team competing at the World Duathlon Championships. In 2010 Shari decided to drop in competition distance, and hone her speed by focusing on the 1500m and 3000m steeplechase in track and field. As a result Shari is now ranked 5th in Canada in the 3000m Steeplechase event. With the National Cross Country Running Championships as her fall goal, Shari has decided to now test the waters in the 10km distance.
