Canadian Derby Edmonton Marathon launches 2010 Pledge Program

Edmonton, AB – The 2010 Canadian Derby Edmonton Pledge Program was officially launched this week. This is the first year that the Pledge Program has been adopted by the Marathon and 13 charities have confirmed they will be participating. The 2010 Canadian Derby Edmonton Marathon weekend will take place on Saturday, August 21 and Sunday, August 22, 2010. The charities raise funds and awareness by encouraging individuals to run or walk for their individual cause, and by collecting pledges.

The 13 charities are:

  • KidSport
  • Alberta AdaptAbilities Association
  • Alberta Diabetes Foundation
  • Alberta Neurofibromatosis Association
  • Allergy/Asthma Information Association
  • Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation
  • Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
  • Canadian Humanitarian
  • Care Canada
  • Childhood Cancer Foundation
  • Make-A-Wish® Northern Alberta
  • NF Canada
  • Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association of Northern Alberta

“The Canadian Derby Edmonton Pledge Program is a great way to raise funds and awareness for 13 deserving charitable organizations,” said Luisa Currie, Vice President, Sales and Business Development for Intact Insurance in the West. “At Intact, we believe strongly in making the communities where we live and work safer, healthier, and happier, and we are excited that these charities will benefit through this event.”

Participants can now make their marathon, half-marathon, 10K or 5K even more meaningful by running or walking for one of these charities. Interested participants can go to canadianderbymarathon.com and register to raise money for the charity of their choice by visiting the pledge program section of the website.

The Canadian Derby Edmonton Marathon, Edmonton’s Premier Running Event will attract 3,500 runners and walkers from Alberta and all parts of the globe, as well as attracting 10,000 spectators. This year, the event has been given a brand new face with a new logo, new website, new start/finish, new course, new sponsors and now a new pledge program. The course is now flat and fast, with first-class amenities for runners and families. The start/finish location is now at Northlands park racetrack, with plenty of indoor washrooms and change areas. The expo, package pickup and registration will be indoors in the new Edmonton Expo Centre. Plenty of free parking, a FREE family fun zone and food services will also be available on race weekend.
